Description

The OAK-D-IoT-40 is an integrated spatial AI and depth camera baseboard for the OAK-SoM-IoT, pairing three on-board cameras with an on-device Myriad X VPU. It's aimed at IoT and edge developers who need stereo depth and AI processing that can stream to a host over USB or run standalone over WiFi.

Key highlights

  • Three on-board cameras: stereo pair plus RGB, piped directly into the OAK-SoM-IoT for depth and AI processing.
  • Dual output paths: data can be sent to a host via USB 3.1 Gen1 (Type-C) or over the ESP32 WiFi interface.
  • Myriad X VPU: 4 TOPS of processing power, with 1.4 TOPS dedicated to AI.
  • Run any AI model: including custom-built architectures (models need to be converted).
  • Hardware encoding: H.264, H.265, and MJPEG at 4K/30FPS or 1080P/60FPS.
  • Computer vision & tracking: warp/dewarp, resize, crop, edge detection, feature tracking, plus 2D and 3D object tracking.

Depth range

The camera has a stereo baseline of 4.0cm (the distance between the left and right stereo cameras). Minimum and maximum depth depend on FOV, resolution, and baseline: minimum perceivable distance is ~20cm (400P or 800P, extended) or ~37cm (800P), and maximum perceivable distance is ~21 meters. Extended disparity mode in the StereoDepth node enables the shorter minimum range.

Connectivity & power

The OAK-D-IoT-40 uses a USB-C cable for communication and power, supporting USB2 and USB3 (5Gbps / 10Gbps). It accepts power from a 5V barrel jack or the USB-C connector. Booting can be done from either the ESP32 or NOR flash on the BW1099EMB, with boot selection configured via BOOT resistors. Onboard LEDs indicate 5V power present, "power good" from the SoM, and the RUN state; the reset button resets the OAK-SoM-IoT only.

Dimensions & weight

  • Width: 60 mm
  • Height: 45 mm
  • Length: 25 mm (including the SoM)
  • Weight: 45.5g total — 20g PCBA, 25.5g SoM with heatsink

Related baseboard

This is one of two baseboards for the OAK-SoM-IoT; the other is the OAK-D-IoT-75. They differ only in stereo baseline distance and the shape/size of the OAK camera.
